Recipes for Life began in April 2011 and will be completed by February 2012. We are working with the Over 55’s Group in West End Hemsworth and West End Primary School to produce a creative book of healthy eating tips, traditional recipes and anecdotes combined with old photographs of the area and children’s illustrations. The Over 55’s Group are using media technology and creative exploration to capture their recollections about happiness, good mental health & well being and how these factors link to community, good living and food.

The publication will be illustrated by artwork produced from children in West End Primary School working with the One to One Development Trust media makers and a free-lance artist on participatory creative sessions.

The generations are being brought together using art, digital photography, video and ITC. There is a sharing of recipes and cooking workshops for the children being run by the Over 55’s Group. The public launch of the book will coincide with an exhibition of the artwork and will be launched on January 9th 2012 at Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre.

The process of producing the publication is a creative experience for participants and artists alike that celebrates well being and good health between the generations.

This is an exciting and vibrant project with a strong element of participation and engagement. At the end of an empowering and engaging project the result will be a high quality publication and exhibition as well as a film documentation of the project.

Recipes for Life is encouraging the participants own well being and happiness as well as producing an excellent legacy to promote healthy eating and cultural heritage to wider audiences. It will remain a long lasting piece of creative work that the community can be proud of having made.
